Module 1

Chemical Safety &‎‎‎ Handling Procedures.

WHMIS
Our in-house training module begins with a WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) chemical handling course. This course provides our staff with essential information about potential hazards they may encounter while working at The Lifeguard Company. We ensure that our team is well-informed about the risks associated with operating a recreational pool facility before they begin their tenure with us. Rather than relying on a generic online WHMIS module, we offer a personalized experience to guarantee that our staff retain crucial information necessary for their safety and well-being.

Industry-Specific Training
Once our staff successfully complete their WHMIS training, we delve deeper into the specific risks and hazards they may face while working at The Lifeguard Company. This includes learning about the specific chemicals required to maintain a pool and how to mitigate slip, trip, and fall risks. By the end of this module, our staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary not only to work safely but also to do so with confidence.

Chemical Testing
To operate a pool in compliance with public health standards, it is essential to maintain a precise chemical balance. Our staff are required to take bi-hourly chemical readings to monitor and adjust chemical levels as needed. In this module, we teach our staff about each chemical they will be testing and how to conduct these tests accurately for reliable results. They also learn the procedures in place for addressing any discrepancies in chemical levels. This training ensures our team has the skills needed to minimize pool closures and keep our customers safe.

Keeping Swimmers Safe With and From Chemicals
As mentioned, maintaining a precise chemical balance is crucial for compliance with public health guidelines. Our staff are trained to operate automatic chemical dosing devices and to manually add chemicals when necessary. These chemicals help create a safe aquatic environment by neutralizing bacteria and germs, ensuring swimmers are comfortable and secure. We understand that using chemicals for the first time can be intimidating, so this training module is designed to alleviate those concerns and help our staff become comfortable with chemical handling before they start at one of our facilities.

Chemical Exposure and Spill Response Training
At The Lifeguard Company, we recognize that accidents can happen, whether due to human error or unforeseen events. While our previous modules aim to minimize the likelihood of such incidents, we also emphasize the importance of training our staff to respond effectively to accidents. Our team is trained in chemical exposure and spill response techniques, and they participate in simulations to test their knowledge and readiness for various situations.

Module 2

Filtration Systems &‎‎‎ Aquatics Operations.

Pool Maintenance Procedures
As the operators of our esteemed facilities, our staff are expected to maintain the pool in compliance with public health standards and customer expectations. This module trains our staff on the daily maintenance procedures they will need to perform. From vacuuming the pool to skimming every last leaf from the pools surface, our team emerges from this module better trained than any other operators in the industry.

Pool Filtration System Cleaning
To ensure a clean and safe pool facility, the filtration system must be closely monitored and regularly cleaned. In this module, our staff learn about every aspect of a pool filtration system and the critical steps required for proper maintenance. From cleaning the filtration pump baskets to backwashing sand filters, our staff are equipped to keep pools running in pristine condition.

Filtration System Troubleshooting
Like any mechanical system, pool filtration systems can experience problems. While our training significantly reduces the frequency and severity of these issues, occasional challenges may still arise. Although The Lifeguard Company partners with excellent commercial pool service providers to resolve complex issues, we recognize the importance of equipping our staff with the skills to troubleshoot common problems independently. In this module, our staff learn about typical issues they may encounter and how to address them effectively to keep our facilities open, safe, and clean.

Additional Preventative Maintenance Procedures
It takes a lot to keep a pool clean and looking its best. In this module our staff learn about the extra procedures The Lifeguard Company puts in place to ensure the facilities we have been entrusted to operate look and feel their best to customers. These procedures include sanitizing high touch surfaces and arranging deck furniture. Although these steps may seem small they are what put us on top of our competition and ensure we are delivering the best quality service to our customers.

Effective and Efficient Reporting of Mechanical Issues
When mechanical issues arise, it is crucial for our staff to report them promptly to management and communicate with customers. This ensures everyone is informed and allows for efficient problem-solving. In this module, our staff learn the proper protocols for informing customers about pool-related issues and how to interact with residents to keep them updated without overpromising results.

Codes and Regulations
The Lifeguard Company operates in various municipalities, each with its own public health department responsible for ensuring facility safety. These departments enforce regulations outlined in the Provincial Health Protection and Promotion Act. It is vital for our staff to understand these regulations and their purpose in maintaining safety. In this module, we cover Chapter H7 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act to ensure our staff gain a working knowledge that prepares them to uphold the standards enforced by public health authorities.

Module 3

Swimmer Management and Customer Service.

Swimmer Supervision Training
Before being considered for a position at one of our lifeguarded facilities, our staff must obtain their National Lifeguarding Certification from the National Lifesaving Society. During this certification process, candidates receive training in swimmer supervision and pool management. The Lifeguard Company builds on these foundational skills by providing specialized training for supervising pools in both solo and multi-guard scenarios. This ensures our staff are prepared to keep swimmers safe in any lifeguarding situation and can adapt to the unique needs of each facility.

Conflict De-escalation and Resource Training
Our business is centered around people, and our staff must be equipped to manage any issues that may arise. In this module, our team learns how to assert their authority while providing exceptional customer service. Staff are trained in effective interaction and de-escalation techniques to handle tense situations professionally and respectfully.

Customer Service and Professional Standards Training
In this module, our staff learn the core principles of customer service and the standards we expect them to uphold. Training on building professional relationships and effective communication is unique to our program. The skills acquired in this module are transferable to any future industry, setting our staff apart from the competition and ensuring our customers remain satisfied.

Swimmer to Site Management
Building on the skills learned in the previous module regarding mechanical issue reporting, our staff are trained on how to communicate effectively and professionally with customers. They will ensure that patrons are always informed about facility matters. By the end of this module, staff are expected to provide an unparalleled customer experience and possess the skills to address any challenges that arise.

Effective Communication
In our final module, we reinforce the importance of effective communication among our staff. They learn how to collaborate as a team, even when working independently. Our team is trained in the best practices for seeking assistance and communicating with The Lifeguard Company’s management team. This ensures our operations run smoothly and our customers receive an outstanding experience while we keep their communities safe, healthy, and happy.
At the conclusion of the training, we formally welcome our successful staff into their new community by honoring them with the tradition of writing their names on the wall of our President’s Office. This tradition symbolizes their entrance into The Lifeguard Company’s tight-knit community and marks their permanent place in our company’s history.
